Martin Creed

Martin Creed at the Hayward Gallery
Really interesting and the concept of nothing being something was something I felt that was done, but this was nice. The room filled with balloons was not only really fun and manic, it was significant. Creed is showing that when we see open air it appears to be nothing. Yet he challenges your perception of space to show that space is 'something'. The oxygen in the air was replaced almost with the balloons. Neon light signs were a part of the exhibition, as well as a lot of 'doodle' drawings, but Creed's music was a feature that separates him from others. The use of pianos and orchestras in a lift was a nice touch.
Would recommend!

Two words... Cate Underwood.
Google her, and weep. This girl is perfection, literally down to the bone. There's a lot of limbs, cheekbones, hair and black. Things that I think one can never go wrong with. Currently obsessing.

outside the pub in soho.
i'm in a love/hate relationship with alcohol but it seems that all answers lead to a drink.

sunday song of the day #46

the whole album is pretty good, but this one stands out to me. i listen to it every morning, travelling up to south kensington. is it strange that the song sounds better when it's sunny? its just one of those sunny songs.

NAC

Yesterday consisted of brunch. White wine, waffles, steak and polaroids. Oh and a few friends. We laughed, gossiped and basked in the sun. Thanks North Audley Cantine.

An attempt

I have always wanted to write. As a child I would read books over books and pine at the idea of being a writer. However, as I grew older, the same appeal of being a writer was clouded over by the fact that I was just not that good at expressing myself. I guess when I created this blog, I had the intention to share a few photos, music, my interests and that was it really. But deep down I have always wanted to say a little more, to share my opinion, but I never knew how to do so.

I made a friend at my new college and we bonded over similar films, books, political views and what not. Yet it was his desire to be a writer that I envied. He wrote in his free time and his conversational skills were impeccable. The conversation just flows, words just jolt out of his mouth in a kind of put together way that many would admire. He recently started a blog, where he finally posted his first 'article' or rant rather of the educational system. The article focuses on the way that school and the examination system doesn't allow for the personal. What I mean by personal, is that it lacks a certain twang, an personality. There is no room for expression. The writing style must be down to the point, very simple, not too 'wordy'. And as he writes this critique, the writing style itself is unflawed. It's conversational, easy to read and actually stimulating.

I like reading blogs and articles that have that kind of style where it feels like your in the same room as the writer. They encapsulate you completely, and the language is simple. But I always think, if you're not good at holding a conversation in real life, can you be good at writing? I'm not too sure. As a person who just isn't that good at holding an interesting conversation - that is if I don't know you too well, or I am just intimidated by an overpowering personality - I find it difficult to get around this problem of being able to write well. I guess it just takes baby steps, you know? Baby steps...

It's sunny and I have 21 politics essays to write. I'm now on my 2nd! However, this song is getting me through it.

Spring florals: old or classic?

Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon, Catherine Zeta-Jones in Les 1001 Nuits (above). Although spring has sprung, it's just not enough. I hope to be washed up shore, with strategically placed coverings and outgrown hair. I may be a winter baby, but I wish I retreated to the beach a long time ago.
